Calendar of new businesses opening in Glen Ellyn

new businesses opening in glen ellyn 2018

Christmas came early for me this morning when Glen Ellyn sent out a much appreciated calendar of projected business openings in 2018. This includes restaurants we’ve been looking forward to such as Sushi Ukai, the new drive-thru Jimmy Johns at the corner of Park and Roosevelt, and the Two Hound Red Microbrewery, who’s progress at the old Schmid’s Pharmacy building has been slowed to a crawl recently after a projected Fall 2017 opening.

Here’s the full list:

Panera opened last week (and I’ve already used the drive-thru three times for hazelnut coffee) and McMae’s on Main opened just last night. It’s great to see Two Hound Red projected for a spring 2018 opening, ensuring it should be open for the majority of the warm weather months. Two Hound is supposed to have the first ever rooftop dining experience in Glen Ellyn, which could be pretty nice with it’s elevation overlooking the rest of downtown, as well as an outdoor patio. It’s also nice to see the new drive-thru Jimmy Johns and Sushi Ukai set to open this spring.

February of 2019 is a little later that I’d expected for the Pete’s Fresh Market to open up at the former Dominick’s at Baker Hill, but it’s nice to know it’s coming. The new CVS that will share a location with the recently relocated Panera is also a little further out than I had hoped, projected to open next October, but at least it has a date.

What’s missing from this list? Nobel House, which will share the bones of the old Soukup’s store with Sushi Ukai, so it’s interesting to see Ukai set to open this spring, but no mention at all of Nobel House. Hopefully this is simply due to a lack of clarity on when Nobel House is likely to open and not due to a setback in their plans.
